A few weeks ago, a north Scottsdale restaurant, Tom’s Thumb was featured on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-ins & Dives. Now, we know you’re thinking, that’s a gas station! Yes, you’re right, it IS a gas station but so much more.
Driving up to Tom’s Thumb, at first glance, you think – gas station with a busy car wash. But when you walk through the doors, prepare to be wowed! To be honest, you may need to walk through a few times to appreciate all they have to offer and the unique decor. In the dining room, there are tables and unique seats made from pallets, a beautiful “rustic” chandelier and hand-drawn chalk menus ( created by Rachel at Handwritten Phoenix). There are several small sitting areas that are perfect for working or just enjoying a snack and surfing the net. Often times, you’ll find a group of ladies playing cards at one of the tables in the back. As you walk through the store, you can’t help but stop and look at all of the uncommon and extraordinary gifts and home decor.
Make sure you are hungry when you go because the food is phenomenal. Seriously, you may find this hard to believe, as Arizona isn’t best known for it’s BBQ. However, once you taste this mouth-watering tasty brisket, you’ll know what we’re talking about! Be sure to order something besides a slider or BBQ sandwich. While these are outstanding, we definitely recommend trying one of the house dishes. A few of our favorites are the Pigs and Grits, The Stack and Brisket Tacos. Even if you aren’t a fan of grits, the stone-ground, creamy grits in the Pigs and Grits may win you over (these were one of Guy’s favorites -pictured above). After you eat, stop by the bakery and grab a treat. These are baked fresh daily and will not disappoint.
The team at Tom’s Thumb along with North Scottsdale Pulse is hosting a tasting event on March 24th at 6:00 PM. Check out the details here !
