Our top five picks for events around the valley this weekend
It’s only Wednesday, but you’re probably dreaming of the weekend already. Hang tight, it’s almost here! With the weather warming up, we’re trying to squeeze in as much time outdoors as possible. However, if being indoors appeals to you more, we’ve added a couple of those, too. Bring the family, go with friends or venture out on your own, these events around the valley this weekend are sure to be a hit.
1. Arizona BBQ Fest (5/2)
Join pitmasters from around the valley as they sell their BBQ and sides! You’ll definitely want to see the horseshoes with toilet seats, dead lawn mower race, watermelon seed spitting contest and live music!
2. Kentucky Derby Parties (5/2)
Throw on your party dress and fanciest hats for this event! There are several parties around Scottsdale, Phoenix and Glendale for you to enjoy mint juleps and a telecast of the races.
3. Carnival of Illusion (5/2)
A Vaudeville themed road show hits Mesa this Saturday at 5:30PM and 8PM.
4. Free Comic Book Day (5/2)
To celebrate Free Comic Book Day, Mesa public library is hosting James A Owen, comic book artist and novelist AND a superhero costume contest. Gothic Comics, Mesa Comics and Samurai Comics will be giving out free comics at all Mesa Public Library locations.
5. Sandfest (5/1-5/2)
This event kicks off Friday with a party for those 21 and older. On Saturday, guests will cheer on local businesses as they vie for the prize with their sandcastle creations.
